A great author. If you have read any of his work all anyone one needs say is this is more of the same. Make sure you read the first book in the series first. When I was a lad, back in the dark ages when Indians went on the warpath (even before Native American was a phrase) good hard SF told about a far off future. Today the same genre refers to tomorrow, and increasingly today. He always writes a good story wrapped around scientific advances that are on the cusp of reality. He is very much a modern Isaac Asimov. If you can't tell, this review is from a reader that is nearly as old as dirt.If Douglas Richards is a new author to you, try a sample. If you like what you read there, you will like the rest. He doesn't disappoint.
Douglas E. Richards has quickly become one of my favorite authors. The way he intricately weaves near futuristic scientific possibilities into an action packed plotline is one of the many reasons I devour his books as soon as they're released! I have Kindle Unlimited, so I can read all his novels for free, but I BUY THEM! Why? Because I always want them available. I reference them in conversations and then pull them up on my phone. Now, I know can be a stand alone novel, but do yourself a favor and read Split Second first. Then, you should read all his novels. They're just THAT good!If you're hesitant about this because of the Kim Jung Un part, so was I. I will tell you that I was pleasantly surprised by how well it was worked into the plot. I'm not one to give away a bunch of spoilers, so just read it!Finally, if you are someone who skips the "Author's Notes" when you read a book, you do NOT want to miss Richards'! He always has a section at the end of his novels titled "What's real and what isn't." Knowing it's there makes me want to get through the story faster so I can learn more! It's fascinating to learn about new scientific developments that are in the works! Some may even shock you!So, basically, JUST READ IT!
I was drawn to stick with the story wanting to know how it would unfold. I read the first book in the series so I understood the premise and knew something about the characters. It certainly gives one pause and makes you wonder if the ends justify the means as well as wondering what the future might hold.Might biggest problem with the second book is that it is at least one third longer than it needed to be which occasionally made me put it down and walk away. I regularly found myself grumbling, enough already, I get it! It desperately needed some editing and pays got tedious. I was switching between the audible and Kindle version and I'm not sure I would have plowed on had I just been reading it. Looking car rides make you more patient. I also felt it was a little predictable... All wrapped up with a neat little bow.I'm glad I finished it but I am not sure if I am going back for more. 3+ would probably be a more accurate rating.
Imagine time travel where duplication of the traveler is a "side effect" and too many duplications result in gross overpopulation? What scientific advances may be accelerated and what dangers may be created with no hope of containment or control? Before you imagine taking a position, and well before the end of Time Frame, the reader is taken on a magnificent journey and the possibility of understanding the existence of a "fifth dimension" and the far reaches of galactic travel. Bring in a whole new meaning to "what might be out there" and what that might mean for the human race, the reader is transported on so many levels to beg the question "are you ready for the ride of your life?" Douglas Richards exceeds all expectations as the many dimensional driver here.
If you haven't read the first in this series, you will be fine starting with this one. It would be better to read the first, but you won't be lost.I've read all of Douglas Richards' books and enjoy them all. This book was no exception to the rule. The characters are all very well described so you feel like you know them all. I really enjoy then theories and sci-fi he brings into his books and the detailed explanation and resources at the end ibn the books. So!shortage things in the book really make you think about how things could really go in our life.Definitely add this book to your list and enjoy his writing.
Douglas E Richards fast became one of my newest favorite authors. His writing style leaves you thinking "why hasn't anyone done this yet?" Split Second was the first book of his I read and from there I was hooked. Time Frame is a well written follow up. The plot to take out Kim Jong Un is a fantasy we all have and you'll just have to read it to see if the group succeeds or not. Although he says it's a stand alone novel, I'd suggest reading the first one to get up to speed. The 2 novels are not ordinary time travel stories in the sense you can go back to any time you want anywhere in the world. It's much more plausible and makes so much more sense. You'll definitely want to read it more than once to fully appreciate the story.
Just awful - stereotyped, exaggerated characters, deux ex machina all over the place. I forced myself to read #1 (meh) but I couldn't get past page 46 in this one.
Lots of plot twists I didn't see coming and wonderful character development and interactions. Just when I thought I knew where things were going, the whole landscape changed. Douglas E. Richards is one of my favorite authors and I've read everything he has written. I especially love how well researched his books are, and that at the end of each novel, he details what is real, what is likely to be real in the near future, and what is fiction (but so based in science, who knows?) - that's what makes it so compelling.
