Dr. Karl Knopf, or Dr. Karl, as his students used to call him, has been involved in the health and fitness of older adults and the disabled for over 40 years. During this time he has worked in almost every aspect of the industry, from personal training and therapy to consultation.While at Foothill College, Karl was the coordinator of the Adaptive Fitness TechÂnician Program and Life Long Learning Institute. He taught disabled students and undergraduates about corrective exercise. In addition to teaching, Karl developed the “Fitness Educators of Older Adults Association†to guide trainers of older adults. Currently Karl is a director at the International Sports Science Association and is on the advisor board of PBS’s Sit and Be Fit show.In his spare time he has spoken at conferences, authored many articles, and written numerous books on topics ranging from water workouts to fitness therapy. He was a frequent guest on both radio and print media on issues pertaining to senior fitness and the disabled.

I had been suffering from shoulder pain for over a year. I had been to my chiropractor and he helped my neck, but unfortunately my shoulder pain was getting progressively worse instead of better. Because I had unsatisfactory experiences in the past with orthopedic doctors and physical therapists I was reluctant to spend the time and money and go to a doctor. So, I thought I would try self help and I found this book on Amazon. The description of what constitutes a frozen shoulder matched my condition exactly. The exercises and stretches seemed like they weren't going to do anything at first because they are so simple and easy. But, within less than a week of starting the program I was noticing improvement. So, I stuck with it and now it has been just a couple months and I am almost completely without pain! I would recommend this book for anyone experiencing shoulder pain and even if you still have to seek out a physicians care this book will help you get started on the road to recovery.
After having an unsuccessful rotator cuff shoulder surgery in Dec 2016. I developed frozen shoulder and was told by my doctor in April 2017 that I would require another surgery to relief the condition, pain and regain movement. I asked what the success rate of this surgery would be and he said 60%. I did not like those odds so started to search on my own for an alternative. One of my first stops was Amazon to educate myself. I found this book which had just been published in Jan. 2017. I started the protocol and exercises laid out and started seeing results within the first week. I am now 3 months in and have regained about 60% use of my arm and the pain is very manageable and I am sleeping through the night. It is truly a miracle. The exercises are presented in a way that is easy to follow and for each specific phase of frozen shoulder. This is a long recover, up to 3 to 5 years but this book has given me hope and without a doubt done better than another surgery.
Heal your frozen shoulder was a great help to me. I particularly liked the reference to joseph pilates, as I really had great results from pilates as well. The photos are clear, the instructions are clear, and even though I’ve been working out with and without trainers for 15 years, there were still new exercise for stretching that I wasn’t aware of. It also helped my husband who was a swimmer for years and now has a limited range of motion. The book shows what you can do with an exercise band OR hand weights, which was great since I hate the stretchy bands. There are some that you have to use a band, however, so be prepared- they’re not the kind you can do with a towel instead.
I am recovering from bilateral frozen shoulders. The exercises in this book are very easy to follow and clear. This book is helping me a great deal. My doctor is very pleased with my increased Range of Motion.
Outstanding book I review the exercises daily as I’m doing them. I had rotator cuff surgery and had 2 screws inserted to reattach tendon. Therapy is mostly replicating exercises in book. The cost of one visit of about $550.00 is outlandish when one could easily follow the exercises in this wonderful book
A basic book,that's all you need, with a doctor approval, if needed...gives u a lot of options .Would get other books by the this author .
Very good book including exercises that can help in shoulder surgery recovery.Has helped in my recovery and exercises at home.
The exercise demo pictures are great, easy to follow.
