I got this book because I recently started researching social engineering. My other books are not new, so I wanted something recent. This book just came out, so I figured it'd be great to get my hands on a copy.Well, I like the book. Personally, I feel that its mostly a tiny book. It seemed like a useless book for me (when I first opened it), because I already read the famous social engineering book that everyone already knows, Social Engineering: The Art of Human Hacking by Christopher Hadnagy and Paul Wilson. But, due to its tiny size, it acts as a quick summary of the previously mentioned book, in my opinion. I actually liked the quick explanations in the second and third chapters. Whereas you would have to read and read and read from the other book just to get the point, this book jumps straight in and keeps it short but understandable.The part of this book that I feel I can benefit from is the chapter titled, The Playbook. That chapter gives you numerous practices to get into the practice of hands-on social engineering with tools and ways to use them.

First off, the author has 20 years experience in the field and shows that he knows what he is talking about. Just as many other reviews have stated, this is not a very detailed book but it is great as a quick reference. Definitions were defined very well and there were great examples given. My favorite parts of the book were when the author explained how you can combine multiple tactics to get what you need. Also stated very clearly is how certain aspects of SE can be illegal and should not be used but are used for ethical purposes. For what this book is, I give it a 5/5.Now for my reservations.Throughout the book there are many grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors. There were about a handful in the first few pages alone, making it very difficult to continue reading and more importantly, taking the author seriously. My biggest gripe of all, though, is the lack of use for the oxford comma. When all is said and done though, it really isn't that big of a deal. Based on these things alone, I would give the book a 2/5.Overall, I am giving the book a 4/5 as the SME set the book up in a great way, allowing for easy reading and had great examples. Hopefully they fix the errors, if there is a second edition.

Interesting book. Like most books these days, you can find the majority of the information on the Internet, but if you want a good consolidated source to get an overview of social engineering this is an excellent place to start.

very well written, very engaging. This book also touches on some penetration testing techniques in addition to the great social engineering information.

Clear and concise with no previous experience required to understand and get the most from this book. This should be required reading for all business owners and shoud be the basis for training employees about their responsibility to protect the company and themselves from evildoers. Highly recommended.
